What To Do Before Class
Please come to class ready to dance. Feel free to bring water or snacks if needs be.
Bring dance shoes or socks to wear if you don't like the idea of dancing barefoot. Whenever possible, out of respect from the studio spaces we use, I ask students to avoid wearing street shoes in class.
Come dressed in comfortable clothing that is easy to move around in, keeping in mind that we may do floor stretches and basic yoga poses in the warmup and cooldown (so a skirt might not be the best choice of attire).
If you like, bring a hip scarf, snacks, a dance notebook, and/or finger cymbals (zils).
If at all possible, please avoid wearing perfume to class - some of us are super sensitive to these kinds of scents (in a bad way).
If you are running late, you are still welcome to come as long as you do not disrupt class with your arrival. If you have time, you can always catch up on what you missed with me after class.
If you know will need to leave class early, please try to arrive early so that we can negotiate payment beforehand.
If you have any issues (medical or otherwise ;D ) you think I should be aware of, please let me know in an email beforehand. I am always happy to suggest modifications for movements when necessary, and it's easier for me to provide you with this information if you communicate your needs to me in advance.
What To Do During Class
Pay attention to your body and the messages it sends you. Respect your limits. If you feel you need modification options for a move or technique, please ask me. You don't need to wait until after class unless you want to!
Ask questions if you are confused. Comments are also welcome as long as they are on-topic and respectful. Try to avoid derailing the class with off-topic comments or background conversations. (I promise you'll have time to chat with me or your other friends before and after class!)
Remember that it's more important to master the basic version of a move than to overextend your brain trying to learn an advanced variation.
Keep an open mind and a sense of humor. This is bellydance, not brain surgery.
Respect yourself and your classmates. Remember that we strive for a sense of community in class, not a sense of competition. I don't have space in my class for anyone who feels otherwise.
I will ask anyone to leave class at any time without a refund if they are being hurtful or disrespectful to their fellow students. Repeat offenders may be denied admission to future classes.
What To Do After Class
Please remember to check in with either myself or my assistant and pay for class (if necessary) before leaving the studio.
Email me if you have any questions about what we've covered in class, any feedback about the class format or content, or any suggestions or criticism.
If you are having trouble or, worse, if you feel that something I'm doing is keeping you from having an ideal experience, please tell me as soon as possible so that we can work towards a solution.
Try to make time to practice what you've learned in class sometime during the week!
All Other Policies
Prospective students may observe (as in watch, not participate in) one CORE or MEGA class for free if they have a genuine interest in evaluating the class content to see if it will be a good fit for them. No other observers are allowed, so please refrain from bringing any other guests to watch a class.
Participating and paying drop-in guests are always welcome in The Language of Tribal Bellydance, CORE and FLOW, and Exploring Tribal Bellydance.
Students under 16 must be accompanied by a participating adult.
Work-study and scholarship opportunities may become available at any time for any of my classes. Please sign up for my mailing list to receive announcements about these opportunities as they become available.
