Sara Beaman has been teaching bellydance to students of all levels since 2003. Her student-centered approach, warm demeanor, and emphasis on safe, elegant technique make her classes some of the most vibrant places to learn bellydance in the Triangle.
Sara's first priority as an instructor is making sure that each and every student in her classes has the resources they need to grow into a well-rounded dancer-- clear movement instruction, information about safe technique, helpful and specific feedback, and access to performance opportunities. Her experience as a student of multiple styles of bellydance enables her to make her curriculum accessible to students from all backgrounds, and to present her class content as part of a greater schema of bellydance moves and techniques.
Sara works hard to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere in her classes. As such, she encourages students of all sizes, genders, ages and fitness levels to participate in her classes. She endeavors to make her students feel they are not just part of a class, but part of a diverse community.
Sara currently teaches at Triangle Dance Studio in Durham and Balanced Movement Studio in Carrboro. In the past, she has also taught classes at the Chapel Hill/Carrboro YMCA, as well as workshops at Meredith College and Campbell University along with other members of Blue Moon Dance Company. This year, she has been invited to teach at Triboriginal 2009, a regional bellydance and circus arts festival held yearly in the mountains of North Carolina.
In addition to teaching, Sara performs both as a soloist and with three local troupes- Blue Moon Dance Company, The Devoted Bellydance Collective, and Sparkle Oasis. She is an active member of the Association of Central Carolina Middle Eastern Dancers who is deeply committed to fostering the growth of her local bellydance community.
