Fusion FLOW Saturdays from 11:40AM-1PM at Triangle Dance Studio in Durham - Continuing Students Welcome - Choreography / Special Topics focus
This fast-paced class will introduce students to the family of 6/8 rhythms common in Moroccan music. Students will learn how to listen to and interpret the rhythms in the 6/8 family in order to dance to them with ease, then translate this new skill into practice while learning special combinations designed for 6/8 music. By putting these combinations together, we'll create an slinky yet upbeat choreography featuring both modern and folkloric stylistic elements. All students with previous bellydance experience are welcome in this class.
MEGA Challenge Saturdays from 1:30-2:50PM at Triangle Dance Studio in Durham - Intermediate/Advanced Level Class - Restricted Enrollment - Advanced Skills / Choreography focus
In this session of MEGA, we'll focus on movements, skills, and concepts for slow solo and group improvisation. This class will cover a broad range of topics designed to help build each student's confidence level and skill set. In addition to learning how to execute a number of slow movements and combinations for Tribal Group Improv, we'll learn strategies for creating compelling solo improv performances as well as advanced layering skills-- layering isolations with traveling patterns, shimmies, and other isolations. Students will be encouraged to explore their own creative voices through freeform class exercises and structured homework assignments. Due to the fast-paced nature of the curriculum, this class is NOT recommended for anyone with less than two years of previous bellydance experience. Please contact skbeaman at gmail dot com if you have any questions about whether or not this class would be appropriate for you!
